Course Assignment – Writing a News Story

Write a news story on a subject of your choice, using the techniques of structuring news stories that have been covered in class. Pay particular attention to the lead para and the who, what, when, where, why and how of the story. You should include at least one quote from an interviewee.

The length of the story should be a minimum of 400 words. Indicate the newspaper or magazine in which you intend your article to appear.

On a separate sheet, write a short account of the origins of the idea, and the steps taken to obtain quotes and information. Say what you think you have learned from the exercise, and how the finished article might have been improved.

Presentation must be double spaced and in standard journalistic format.
